Discussion:lust

Matthew 5:27-28
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’°
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

°(Exodus 20:14 “You shall not commit adultery.)

Is it possible to make out without either person lusting? Is it likely?

I don’t think so.

Proverbs
6:32 But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment;
whoever does so destroys himself.

How does sexual activity with someone other than a spouse destroy a person? Example: (Ask a child of an unfaithful father if their respect was destroyed when they learned of an adultery)

if it destroys a person, does that mean there is no hope for those who have sinned against their bodies and against God?

No. We have been given the option to turn from it and follow God, who forgives us when we believe and trust in Jesus, His Son with our lives. With that choice there is much hope. When God believes in us, we are empowered to succeed with our lives in Him, and can begin the process of repairing relationships with people we have hurt with our breach of trust. We learn to hate the action we did, without being paralyzed into inactivity due to shame. Jesus forgives and frees us from that shame being in effect anymore. You are no longer the same person in God’s eyes, you are a new creation.
