Matthew 7:13-14

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Many people today believe that we get to heaven by being a good person. No matter how good we are, we are still imperfect. God tells us that the easy road leads to destruction. This isn’t just talking about the duration of our lives, it’s talking about eternity. Finding the road to life means walking a straight and narrow path, one that few find. It sounds like a lot of work, which is why many people choose the easy, or instantly gratifying path. I can think of many times in my life when hard work has paid off, and laziness has failed me. When my time comes to meet the Creator, I don’t want laziness to fail me, I want to celebrate my hard work and commitment to doing what is right… at all times and in all things. The narrow road, despite popular opinion, leads to freedom. I don’t want to be a prisoner of bad choices, laziness, peer pressure or temporary fun. People who call themselves Christians are held to a much higher standard. If that is you, and you are looking at others around you living on the broad road, and taking an occasional step in the wrong direction- you are in far more danger than those who don’t know what is right. Your life should be an example of the freedom, joy, peace, mercy and life that God gives His children.
