Discussion: Duplicity

Have you ever met someone who claims to be something they are not?
Have you ever acted a certain way to be accepted, even though it
wasn’t really you?
How do we know when someone has integrity or not?
Have you ever heard the phrase “you know a tree by it’s fruit”?
What does that mean?

That phrase means that despite what we claim to be, our actions and
way of life are evidence for who we really are. Some people claim
that they don’t care when they are made fun of, but cry about it.
Sometimes the words and actions don’t match up.

James 3:9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with
it we curse men, who have been made in God?s likeness. 10 Out of the
same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12
My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?
Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Can you think of an area of your life where you claim one thing, but
live another?

Are you a good person, but consistantly say and do mean, selfish or
careless things?

Are you claiming to be a Christian, but not following Christ?

It is not always an easy task to do what God wants, but it is always
right.

How can we say God is perfect, but reject His commands? When we
choose to make fun of others, cuss, break the law, disobey our
parents, ignore the needs of others, serve ourselves before others,
etc, etc., we are not an example of Jesus. Saying you are a Christian
bears little weight if there is no evidence.
Christian means ‘follower of Christ”. Follow requires action. Does
your fruit match the tree you claim to be?
What changes do you need to make?
Are you really going to make those changes, or just intend to?

Make a plan.
