Discussion: Helplessness

When have you felt helpless?

Have you been relieved of it?

Job
(9:32) “He is not a man like me that I might answer him,
that we might confront each other in court.
(9:33) If only there were someone to arbitrate between us,
to lay his hand upon us both,
(9:34) someone to remove God’s rod from me,
so that his terror would frighten me no more.
(9:35) Then I would speak up without fear of him,
but as it now stands with me, I cannot.

The book of Job is said to be one of the oldest books in the Bible. Job lived before Jesus was born on the Earth. It is interesting that he should refer to the need for a man to arbitrate between him and God. If you felt like God was allowing your life to be unbearable, yet understood His absolute power over you, you would feel overwhelmed and think, “What could I possibly say to such a big God?” Job trusted God despite the perception he had of the situation. God loves us, and He had a plan already to come to earth as a man to be accessible and pave the way to loving communication with Him without the fear that stops a relationship from happening. Because of this, each of us who accepts Jesus as our most trusted Friend, can speak to God freely, without the previous requirement of a priest to pray on our behalf.
