Discussion: Self-control

How do you know that you do (or do not) have self-control?

I generally know self-control is being applied when I struggle with something; not everyone tries to resist things that are not good for them.

Do you try to control yourself, or do you just let the rules and consequenses around you dictate what you will or won't do?

When does your will seem weak?

I feel less willing to fight temptation to be lazy when I am tired, or hungry, or emotionally spent.

What circumstances help you to make good decisions?

When I am conscious of others who share my values. When I consider the rewards of goodness.

How can habits you choose help you to be better prepared to act wisely?

A habit of reading God's words helps me to remember what is good and what God thinks about different things and practices.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
