Discussion: Typical

Have you ever heard the phrase 'terrible twos' before?

What does it mean?

Those behaviors would be describes as 'normal' two-year-old
behaviors. Because they are considered 'normal', does that mean a
parent should ignore it or allow it?

What would you say are 'typical' behaviors for people your age?

If those things are typical, does that mean we should do them, or not
view them as a big deal?

I have heard a lot of adults describe some trouble they got into as
teenagers as 'normal' or 'typical' teenage behaviors. These are
usually the same people who look down on or do not trust or respect
teenagers. I also see a lot of teenagers get frustrated by how they
are looked down on, but they get themselves into trouble.

The Bible says:

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to
test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect
will."
-Romans 12:2

"For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the
ignorant talk of foolish men."
-1Peter 2:15

We are called to be set apart from this world. What is dismissed as
'typical' shouldn't matter to us. We should not be conforming to the
world, but living according to God's word and His will for our lives,
and by living right by Him, we can silence the talk of those who are
speaking out of ignorance. Do not be a standard issue American youth.
Be who God wants you to be.
