Reading Mark Chapter 8 for Wednesday, February 26th. Jesus feeds 4,000 people, warns his disciples about yeast, rebukes Peter, and calls on everyone to take up their cross to follow Him.

Mark 7

Reading Mark Chapter 7 for Tuesday, February 25th. Jesus is criticized by Pharisees for not washing hands. Jesus changed his plans and removed a demon from a gentile woman’s daughter. Jesus heals a man who was dead and mute. Everybody keeps talking about Jesus’ miracles despite Jesus asking people to keep quiet about it.

1 Samuel 29

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 29 for Friday, February 21st. David and his men almost go into battle with Achish and the Philistines against Israel. The other rulers thought it was a bad idea to include David and his men in such a battle, so David and his men were sent back.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 28 for Thursday, February 20th. Saul turns to a witch to bring up Samuel’s spirit for one last prophesy, which is still more bad news for Saul.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 27 for Wednesday, February 19th. David and his men fled to Philistine territory so that Saul would stop pursuing them, and gained the trust of the Philistines that they were not a threat to them.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 26 for Tuesday, February 18th. David has another opportunity to kill Saul, but still will not do it. He only temporarily took his spear and water jar while he and his men slept.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 25 for Monday, February 17th. David protects the livestock and possessions of Nabal, who repays him only with insults. Vengeance was intercepted with the wisdom of Nabal’s wife, and justice was carried out by God.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 24 for Friday, February 14th. David has an opportunity to take Saul’s life, but he dares not, out of respect for God’s anointing. He damages Saul’s robe to prove his untaken opportunity, and eventually regrets that.

1 Samuel 23

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 23 for Thursday, February 13th. David and his men rescue a city from the Philistines, then have to leave because they got Saul’s attention. Saul chases David around closely until Saul gets a message that the Philistines have attacked again, and he is needed elsewhere.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 22 for Wednesday, February 12th. Saul wanted David dead, Doeg tells Saul how the priests helped David, Saul orders that all the priests be killed. His guards would not strike a priest, so Doeg kills them himself, but Abiathar escapes to join David and his men.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 21 for Tuesday, February 11th. David visits a priest and an enemy territory and is prepared and ready for each situation to respond with creativity to preserve his life and the lives of his men.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 20 for Monday, February 10th. David and Jonathan reaffirm their friendship and Jonathan finds out that Saul, his dad, really wants David to die.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 19 for Friday, February 7th. Saul wants to kill David, but is unsuccessful and sends others to do it, but they also do not succeed. The Holy Spirit causes David’s attackers to prophesy when they near him and Samuel, including Saul.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 18 for Thursday, February 6th. Saul is jealous of David after he heard women sing a song that belittles Saul’s military accomplishments as compared to David’s.

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 17 for Wednesday, February 5th. A 9 foot tall warrior challenged the Israelites to a battle to the death as they cowered, until young David heard and could not let the taunting continue. His big brother accused him of selfish motives. God gave him victory.

1 Samuel 16

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 16 for Tuesday, February 4th. David is anointed as a future king. God sends an evil spirit to torment Saul, while David soothes Saul’s anguish with music.

1 Samuel 15

Reading 1 Samuel Chapter 15 for Monday, February 3rd. Saul does not obey God’s instructions, so God tells him through Samuel that he is done being king.
