Discussion: Marriage 2

Recap Verse being discussed:

" I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
The disciples said to him, "If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry."
Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given.
For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage° because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it." -Matthew 19:9-12

So marriage is not recommended unless you burn with passion, to keep from sinning, and then it is for life. If you can't commit to someone for your life, and feel an irresistable passion, you should break up and not see each other, because we should run away from temptation, but stand up to the enemy, Satan.

I think singleness is a tough place for some people, and people should not give single people such a hard time, always trying to play matchmaker. Jesus did not even encourage marriage for all, except as a holy way to direct with our passions, and remain righteous in the process.

Is it important that you agree about the depth of commitment marriage should have before marrying as well?

Purity before marriage is a likely indicator of purity after marriage. Certain rationalizations used in courtship could backfire after the commitment is official as well.

Marriage is for those who desire guilt-free heterosexual relationships as God designed them to be- for life.

Marriage is not for those without self-control, failure is.
